Once abandoned in a remote and rarely visited area, a little puppy found itself in a frightening and lonely situation. The pup was confused and unsure of where to go after being left behind by its owner, choosing to stay put in hopes of being found.
When I first laid eyes on the puppy, its gaze was hopeful but filled with fear, making it too scared to move. It was visibly underweight and its skin was peeling. Without some form of assistance, its future looked bleak.
Fortunately, a mountain biker came across the pup and got in touch with me. Three hours later, we were at the vet’s office with the terrified young dog. The vet discovered that the pup was in poor health: its skin was rough and scaly, its eyes swollen and sore, and it was infested with ticks. These issues had clearly been neglected for some time.
With medication, we began to relieve its discomfort, and soon the pup was not as itchy as before. Despite its wrinkled skin, the pup was only three months old, indicating it had been neglected from a very young age. We found ourselves wondering about the pup’s mother and whether she might be missing her young one, as mother dogs typically keep their puppies close and safe.
Although the road to recovery seemed long, within a few days, the puppy’s spirits began to lift. It grew curious about its surroundings and slowly shed its fear. Yet, it still sought reassurance and wouldn’t venture too far without looking for me, its newfound source of comfort.
Over time, it gathered the courage to explore more freely. One day, spotting me from afar, the pup sprinted in my direction, recognizing me as its new guardian. The day was beautifully serene, and we enjoyed it together.
For this little one, love and care were new experiences, but they became crucial in its healing process. We named the pup Amber. With time, Amber’s skin condition improved and she began receiving proper nutrition.
However, a new challenge arose when Amber suddenly couldn’t walk and cried out in pain. Veterinary tests and X-rays indicated she had gastritis. Thankfully, the doctors managed to stabilize her condition, alleviating her pain.
Initially hesitant to eat while standing, Amber gradually improved. Her skin nearly fully healed and soft fur began to grow back. With hope in our hearts, we started planning to find a loving family for Amber, wishing that her dreams of a happy life would soon become reality.
