My Mom Sent Me a Photo of My Dogs on the Front Porch — Is My Reaction Justified?
I’ve been married to Tom for three years, but before we married, I already had my two dogs, Max and Bella. They’re like children to me, and I always assumed Tom felt the same. A month ago, I had a two-week work trip, and Tom assured me he’d take care of the dogs. I felt relieved.
However, the day I left, I got a text from my mom saying Max and Bella were tied up outside. I was upset and immediately called Tom, who casually said he thought they needed fresh air. I was furious and told him to bring them inside. Over the next few days, I continued checking in, and while Tom assured me they were fine, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. My mom even mentioned the house looked messy.
As my trip was ending, I asked my mom to check on the dogs. She sent me a picture, showing them tied up outside again. I had her bring them to her place, and I cut my trip short. When I got home, Tom tried to downplay the situation, saying I was overreacting. He even claimed I cared more about the dogs than him. In the end, I realized I couldn’t stay with someone who treated my dogs that way, so I filed for divorce.
A few days later, Tom moved out. I felt a mix of sadness and relief, but I knew I made the right choice. Max and Bella are my family, and anyone who doesn’t respect that doesn’t belong in my life.
