Touching Last Wish of an Elderly Man to Hold His Wife’s Hand Inspires Many
A heartfelt photo capturing an elderly Chinese couple holding hands while both were receiving intensive care has touched many online, quietly symbolizing a lifetime of love.
The photo was taken by Wang Yanfang, the head nurse of the ICU at Yinzhou Hospital in Zhejiang Province, eastern China, as reported by New China.
Ninety-two-year-old Feng Ming was hospitalized due to heart failure. His condition worsened because of multiple organ failure and a lung infection, eventually requiring life support.
As Feng’s condition declined, his family decided to bring him home to spend his final moments in a familiar place. Before leaving the hospital, he made one last wish—to see his wife, with whom he had shared 66 years of marriage.
His wife, 95-year-old Zhang Ping, was also hospitalized at the same hospital for a broken femur, but on a different floor.
Understanding the significance of this request, Chief Nurse Wang arranged for Zhang to be brought to the ICU to fulfill Feng’s last wish. Because of Feng’s critical state, the visit was scheduled outside normal visiting hours.
Zhang was transported on a stretcher to Feng’s bedside. She gently held his hand and comforted him in their native dialect, saying, “Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.” Feng was visibly moved by her words. He peacefully passed away at home just hours later.
Nurse Wang reflected on the moment, saying, “We’re thankful we could make this possible. It was a meaningful and deeply touching experience.”
This story beautifully illustrates the lasting connection between two people who stood together for nearly seven decades, serving as a quiet yet powerful testament to love, devotion, and compassion.
