Sweet Shelter Dog Doesn’t Understand Why Nobody Wants to Save Him

Sometimes, the best things in life are hidden in plain sight. That’s exactly the case for Bernie, a lovable dog who’s been waiting patiently for someone to notice him at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

Despite his sweet personality and adorable face, Bernie has been overlooked time and time again. And honestly, he just doesn’t get it.

Bernie Lives in the Last Kennel

Bernie’s kennel is at the very end of the shelter, and sadly, that means many visitors don’t even make it to him.
“He’s in the last kennel, so people don’t always see him,” the shelter staff explained. It’s heartbreaking to think that Bernie’s location might be the reason he’s still waiting for a family.

A Hidden Gem

The staff at the shelter can’t say enough good things about Bernie. They describe him as a “hidden gem” who just needs someone to give him a chance.

“He’s such a good boy,” they said. “He’s sweet, playful, and loves people. We don’t understand why no one asks to meet him.”

Bernie’s Big Heart

Even though Bernie has been passed over so many times, he hasn’t let it get him down. He’s still full of love and hope, wagging his tail every time someone walks by.

“He’s always happy to see people,” the staff shared. “He just wants to be loved.”

Why Hasn’t Bernie Been Adopted?

The shelter staff thinks Bernie might be overlooked because he’s not a puppy. But they’re quick to point out that older dogs like Bernie have so much to offer.

“He’s already trained and well-behaved,” they said. “He’s the perfect dog for someone who wants a loyal companion.”
