Débora Estrella died in a small plane crash in Nuevo León, Mexico, on September 20, 2025. Her ex-husband, journalist José Luis García, was among the first to report the incident—unaware she was on board.
The crash occurred around 6:50 PM near the Pesquería River in the Ciudad Mitras industrial park. The light aircraft, registration XB-BGH, was caught on video by locals. Authorities confirmed two fatalities: Estrella and the pilot, Bryan Leonardo Ballesteros Argueta.
Hours earlier, Estrella had shared a photo of the plane on Instagram from the Aeropuerto Internacional del Norte, without revealing details of the flight.
José Luis García, who had worked with Estrella in Monterrey media, reported the crash on social media without knowing her involvement. He wrote:
“Light aircraft crashes. Nuevo León Civil Protection confirms two dead near Riveras Interpuerto.”
Soon after, followers pointed out that Estrella had posted about a similar aircraft. He deleted the post later that night and has not made any public comments since.
Estrella and García had a 15-year relationship, including 10 years of marriage. Their life together was mostly private but occasionally shared online—travel photos, birthday wishes, and holiday greetings reflected a loving bond.
They divorced in January 2020, announcing it jointly on social media. A year later, García briefly spoke about it in an interview, saying they ended things amicably and respectfully, after realizing they no longer shared the same life plans.
The tragic crash has brought renewed attention to their story—a long relationship marked by love, discretion, and a respectful separation.
