GOP Set to Add Another Seat to House

Posted on October 24, 2025 By dyjqt No Comments on GOP Set to Add Another Seat to House

Republicans Push Redistricting to Boost House Advantage

Republican-led legislatures in several states are advancing new congressional maps aimed at increasing GOP representation,

encouraged by former President Donald Trump. In North Carolina, Republicans seek a map giving them an edge in 11 of 14 districts,

up from 10, targeting Democratic Rep. Don Davis’s seat. The plan passed the state Senate despite protests,

and Governor Josh Stein cannot veto redistricting under state law.

GOP leaders argue the map reflects voter preferences, with Sen. Ralph Hise

saying it’s crucial “to secure another Republican seat” and Senate leader Phil Berger claiming it honors voter choice.

Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is proposing a ballot measure allowing Democrats

to temporarily suspend the independent redistricting commission to create five Democrat-leaning districts, countering GOP efforts.

Similar initiatives are underway in Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Indiana, with legal challenges anticipated.

Republicans currently control governorships and legislatures in 23 states,

giving them significant influence over congressional boundaries ahead of upcoming elections.
