Puppies Covered In Tar And ‘Unable To Move’ Are So Grateful To See Their Rescuer
In May 2023, Animal Aid Unlimited, India (AAUI) received a distressing call from a Good Samaritan: three young puppies had fallen into hot road tar, which had hardened around them, trapping them completely. Without help, the puppies would have died from dehydration and exhaustion, unable to free themselves.
Volunteers rushed to the scene and found the terrified puppies stuck in thick, black asphalt. Carefully, they lifted each one out of the tar pit and transported them to the AAUI shelter for emergency treatment.
The puppies were in bad shape — the tar had solidified on their fur and skin, making movement painful and nearly impossible. Luckily, the AAUI team had handled similar cases before and knew water wouldn’t work. Instead, they began gently coating the pups in cooking oil to break down the tar and ease it off their bodies.
The team worked tirelessly, taking only short breaks to feed the exhausted puppies through a syringe. After three hours of careful cleaning, patches of clean fur started to appear — a hopeful sign that the worst was over.
Despite their ordeal, the puppies began to recover, thanks to the patience, experience, and dedication of their rescuers. What could have ended in tragedy turned into a story of survival, compassion, and second chances.
