Cyndi Lauper deals with illness that causes severe pain
Cyndi Lauper, known for her 1983 hit “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, became an icon of individuality and empowerment. Behind her vibrant persona and colorful style, Lauper has battled psoriasis since 2010—a chronic, painful skin condition that once left her feeling like her skin had been burned.
Despite the discomfort and emotional toll, Lauper, now 69, continues to thrive as a singer, mother, activist, and LGBTQ+ advocate. Her advocacy was inspired by her sister and includes projects like the “True Colors” tour and songs like “Above the Clouds”, written for Matthew Shepard.
She openly discusses her struggles with psoriasis, aiming to break the stigma. During flare-ups, she wrote the award-winning Kinky Boots musical, becoming the first solo woman to win a Tony for Best Original Score.
To manage her condition, she practices meditation, yoga, and reiki, and found relief with Cosentyx. Lauper also hosts a podcast, PsO in the Know, to raise awareness, featuring stories from others with psoriasis.
Other celebs like Kim Kardashian and Art Garfunkel also live with the condition, proving it’s more common than many realize. Lauper’s message? Take care of yourself, speak up, and don’t suffer in silence.
