Woman spends a month trying to help stray dog whose head was stuck in a jug
Teri Goodnight, a seasoned dog rescuer, took on a tough case when she learned about a stray dog with his head stuck in a plastic jug. The dog, later named Jughead, had been wandering the streets for days, scared and unable to see properly, though he could breathe and eat through a hole in the jug.
Goodnight discovered Jughead was always with another stray, Red, and was determined to rescue them both. Despite using food traps and spending long hours—sometimes 24 straight—Jughead was too frightened to approach. Well-meaning neighbors often scared him off.
After 30 days and 25 trips, Goodnight finally trapped him—on her birthday. Overwhelmed, she cried as another rescuer helped remove the jug. Jughead, relieved and swollen, was quickly comforted by Red.
Both dogs were placed in a foster home through East Texas Hoof and Paw Rescue. Jughead, now Buck, and Red, now Archie, are adjusting well and beginning to trust again.
