Dumped in a Trash Bag and Left for Dead, This Chihuahua Puppy Learns What Love Feels Like

Just last week, Thor’s world was bleak. At only 8 weeks old and weighing just 3 pounds, the tiny Chihuahua was discovered inside a garbage bag on the side of a road in Dickinson, Texas.

Responding to a report of a suspicious trash bag that appeared to be moving, animal control officers arrived to find the puppy bloodied, cold, and crawling with fleas.

Thor’s condition was critical—his right eye was dislocated, his body covered in puncture wounds, and he was trembling.

Though he had a collar, it was clear he’d been abandoned and possibly attacked.

The officers rushed him to Animal Kingdom Pet Hospital, where veterinarians stabilized him and made the difficult decision to remove his severely damaged eye.

“We had no idea if he would survive the surgery,” said Kristin Smith, a veterinary technician at the clinic. But Thor made it through—and amazed everyone with his strength.

Smith, touched by Thor’s resilience, decided to take him home to foster. The local shelter, Bayou Animal Services, agreed to cover his medical costs, grateful for the help during a time when they were overwhelmed with pet surrenders.

In the safety of his foster home, Thor began to heal—and to show just how much love he had to give. He follows Smith around the house, always looking for a chance to curl up in her lap or snuggle into a warm blanket.

“He’s so affectionate,” Smith shared. “All he wants is to be close and loved.”

Thor is now recovering well. Despite losing an eye, he’s adjusting quickly and doesn’t seem bothered by it. He continues to receive treatment for parasites and will soon finish his vaccinations.

By early next year, Thor will be ready for adoption. For now, he’s spending his days wrapped in soft blankets, cuddled up beside the person who gave him a second chance—and sleeping peacefully, with no more worries in the world.
