AM I WRONG FOR BREAKING UP WITH MY BOYFRIEND BECAUSE HE LOST MY DOG?
My boyfriend and I were together for almost 4 years. I’ve had my dog, Freya (12), her whole life. We grew up together, and she struggles to trust new people. She has always been anxious, but she’s the light of my life and has always been by my side, even on my worst days.
When I introduced my boyfriend to my family (just my mom and Freya), he ignored her, which felt odd since he claimed to LOVE dogs.
Recently, I planned a short vacation. My friend Stan was supposed to care for Freya, but my boyfriend insisted on doing it, saying he “loved” her. On day two, he casually mentioned that Freya “liked staying outside.” Turns out, he left her alone for hours, only checking on her occasionally. I live in an apartment — SHE HAD NOWHERE SAFE TO GO!
Panicked, my mom and I rushed home, but Freya was gone. I blocked my boyfriend and have been searching non-stop — posters, Facebook groups, everything. Now, he and his friends are calling me out for “choosing my dog over him.”
But I know for a fact that’s not true. Still, I don’t have anyone unbiased to ask. Am I wrong here?
