Animal rescuers receive dozens of reports every day, but this particular dog’s case broke the hearts of Victor Lakhill and his team of volunteers in Spain. She was an adult dog in obvious physical decline, and life hadn’t been kind to her at all.
Surrounded by waste, flies, rodents, and mountains of pollution , Maya lived defenseless . This elderly dog was reported to the volunteers of Let’s Adop International, a foundation led by Valencian Víctor Lakhill.
A man who, before reporting her to the foundation, decided to build her a small house with plastic sheeting so she could find shelter, and his idea worked because the intelligent Maya stayed put until help arrived.
Maya’s condition was lamentable. She had skin problems, her eyes were covered in eye discharge due to a serious tear duct problem and a lack of proper hygiene. She also suffered from painful mastitis, her teeth were falling out of her mouth, and she had abrasions on various parts of her body.
Although she looked terrible, the dog turned out to be a real sweetheart. As soon as Maya saw her rescuer, she knew he was there to help her. She obediently allowed herself to be leashed and led to the car that would take her to freedom.
The truth is, she’s one of the most helpful and cooperative furry friends we’ve ever seen in any other rescue. Typically, dogs tend to be fearful, reluctant, and even violent around strangers.
The rescuer drove Maya across the city to the health center where she would be treated. A veterinarian determined that the dog was suffering from anemia, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia, the latter diseases caused by parasites and ticks.
During her recovery, this elderly dog was surrounded by top specialists and caregivers . They not only showered her with attention, but also with lots of love, and Maya soon began to show her gratitude.
Unfortunately, during her recovery, a hidden enemy grew inside her and the furry one was on the verge of hanging her legs due to a tumor.
