Hundreds of animals are receiving care from humane organizations in Southern California as the region grapples with fast-moving wildfires displacing countless residents.

ā€œThis wonā€™t be resolved in a day or a week,ā€ said Ana Bustilloz, communications and marketing director at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA). ā€œWeā€™re ready to assist.ā€

From cats and dogs to horses, birds, and even tortoises, rescue groups have taken in a wide variety of animals. While some pets are temporarily boarding while their owners stay in evacuation centers or hotels that donā€™t allow animals, others are being treated for injuries sustained during the wildfires.
