LAMPASAS COUNTY, TEXAS — In the early hours of Sunday morning, a dramatic and life-saving rescue unfolded in flood-stricken Lampasas County as Texas Game Wardens, local firefighters, and emergency crews worked together to save two people trapped inside a vehicle that had been swept away by powerful floodwaters.

The vehicle, believed to have been caught in fast-moving water during the night, was pushed nearly a mile downstream, passing through a square culvert beneath railroad tracks and becoming completely submerged along the way.

Inside were a man and a woman, both struggling to survive as their car was pulled into one of the most dangerous stretches of water.

Clinging to Life

Rescuers described the scene as chaotic and urgent. When Game Wardens arrived, they found the man clinging to a tree branch approximately 15 feet above the flood current — cold, exhausted, and barely able to speak. He had managed to escape from the vehicle and climb to higher ground just in time.

Roughly 50 to 100 yards downstream, the woman was also located — similarly holding onto a tree, soaked and shivering, but alive.

“It’s a miracle they survived,” said one of the responding firefighters.
“They were in full floodwater conditions — fast current, low visibility, and zero stability. They fought to stay alive.”

A Moment of Hope in a Difficult Week

Texas has been dealing with widespread flooding in multiple counties following heavy storms throughout the week. While many communities continue to experience damage and displacement, rescues like this one are reminders of courage, teamwork, and resilience.

“We’re incredibly thankful they were rescued in time,” said a spokesperson for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
“These moments bring hope, even in the midst of heartbreak.”

Continued Caution Urged

Officials are urging all residents to avoid driving into floodwaters, reminding the public that even shallow water can carry vehicles off the road. This incident highlights how quickly conditions can become deadly — and how crucial it is to take warnings seriously.

Both individuals were treated on-site and later transported for medical evaluation. They are expected to recover fully.

As Texas continues its storm recovery, this rescue stands as a powerful reminder: even in the darkest moments, survival — and hope — is possible.
