A puppy no more than six months old was found shivering and alone, tied to a large oak tree in the park. As soon as Dev Naz received the news, he rushed to assess the situation. The thin wire cut deeply into his neck, impeding all movement. It’s incomprehensible how someone could be so heartless and careless.
When Dev freed the puppy from its bonds, she worried that it was paralyzed. It hadn’t moved at all! She tried to move its legs, but realized something wasn’t right. Not knowing if it had distemper, which is common and contagious, Dev put on gloves and carefully picked it up.
The puppy was placed in the back of a truck for further examination. His paws are numb, and it’s unknown what happened to him.
At first, Dev speculates. He says the puppy might have been hit hard in the back. But as he sits him up a little, he finally realizes the unthinkable: he has small wounds all over his body! A monster shot him with a pellet gun!
Due to his location in the world and the severe shortage of funds, this won’t be easy. Surgery is expensive! Luckily, Dev is trained to do many things himself. He can treat the puppy’s pain and infection. Thanks to donations, Dev hopes to schedule the puppy’s surgery to remove all the pellets as soon as possible .
The next day, the puppy went to the vet, who discovered he couldn’t feel his hind legs. The vet decided he needed diagnostic tests to develop a treatment plan. Even though the puppy was in a strange place, surrounded by people, he was so well-behaved! The tests showed lumps all over his body.
The vet and Dev agree that the puppy will need surgery to remove the pellets without further damaging her nerves. If all goes well, she could walk again, but there’s no guarantee.
