While driving through rush hour traffic in Houston, Diana Lopez and her fiancé, Juan, were stunned when Juan spotted a cat curled up on the side of the freeway. Shocked, they quickly decided they had to help.
After making a U-turn and returning, Juan stopped the truck while Lopez waited for a break in traffic. She sprinted out and managed to rescue the terrified cat, breaking into tears once she was safely back in the car.
The 1-year-old calico, later named Callie, was in rough shape—bloody paws and covered in cuts—but began to recover quickly with food, a bath, and care. After a vet visit and a week of healing, Callie was thriving.
Lopez, already a cat lover, knew she couldn’t let Callie go and welcomed her as the newest member of their feline family.
