Dog Dumped On Street As Owner Drives Off Saying ‘Bye-Bye’
Stories of pet abandonment are always difficult to process, but a recent case in Surprise, Arizona has left many especially heartbroken. In a deeply upsetting video shared on Facebook, a woman is seen cruelly discarding a dog on a quiet residential street, leaving him stunned and confused as she drives away.
Cruel Goodbye Caught on Camera
The incident was captured by a security camera on March 8, 2025. In the footage, a red SUV can be seen turning around on a dead-end road. As the vehicle prepares to leave, the rear door opens, and a woman pushes a black and white dog out onto the pavement. Just before speeding off, she can be heard saying a cold, casual “bye-bye” to the helpless animal.
The dog, clearly shaken, immediately runs after the vehicle, desperate to return to the person who abandoned him.
A Witness Steps In to Help
Joanna Buesen, who happened to be walking her own dog nearby, witnessed the heartbreaking event as it unfolded.
“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” Buesen told Arizona Family.
Seeing the distressed dog sprinting after the car, Buesen softly called out to him. Hearing her kind voice, the frightened dog turned and ran toward her. At last, someone had shown him compassion.
Buesen brought the dog home, offering him food and comfort. Later, local animal control officers arrived and took him into their care.
A Community Outraged
Buesen expressed her disbelief over the callousness shown by the dog’s former owner, particularly the casual farewell that was caught on video.
“I think that they had no remorse for their actions, and I think that is the telltale that it is malicious intent,” she said. “I understand things are hard and things can be tough in life, but you don’t have to be a soulless human. And that is just a soulless thing.”
Justice in Progress
The case was quickly reported to law enforcement. Fortunately, the video clearly showed the SUV’s license plate, giving investigators solid leads to pursue.
By March 11, FOX 10 Phoenix confirmed that the individuals responsible had been identified. A man and a woman, both connected to the abandoned dog, turned themselves in. They are now facing charges related to animal cruelty.
A New Beginning for a Deserving Pup
The rescued dog is now in the care of a shelter in Arizona, where he will soon be available for adoption. After such a painful betrayal, he’s finally getting a second chance at a better life.
