Amanda Seyfried’s Life on the Farm: Far from Hollywood, Close to Home
For Amanda Seyfried, life now means early mornings, muddy boots, and managing a farm full of animals — and she wouldn’t have it any other way. The award-winning actress has built a life far from the spotlight, on a working farm in upstate New York that brings her peace, purpose, and a fair share of chaos.
Seyfried left Los Angeles nearly a decade ago, long before motherhood or career changes pushed her to. Burned out by Hollywood, she craved something simpler and more private. Her deep bond with her dog, Finn, played a key role in her decision. Finn grounded her emotionally, and their connection sparked her desire for more animals — and more space.
That led to a full-scale farm in New York’s Hudson Valley. Seyfried described it as the best decision she ever made — a place that offers privacy, balance, and healing from the pressures of city life.
Her rural life, though challenging and hands-on, is one she’s built with care. She compares it to a full-time job, caring for everything from chickens and goats to a donkey named Gus. One particularly stubborn goat once refused to leave its shed — a moment that was both exhausting and, as she put it, “completely awesome.”
At home, Seyfried juggles motherhood, marriage, and her career — plus her sustainable kids’ brand, Make It Cute. She credits her support system for helping her manage it all. “Help is a text away,” she says.
Despite occasional trips to the city for work or holidays, she always returns to the farm — especially for Christmas. That rhythm of coming and going has become part of her family’s tradition.
Amanda doesn’t romanticize farm life, but she values every part of it. It’s not glamorous, but it’s hers — a life she’s chosen, shaped, and fiercely protects. And in that muddy, beautiful chaos, she’s found her version of success.
