‘It was heartbreaking to see dog’: Woman banned from keeping all animals for five years

A Skegness woman, Ashlie Wilkinson, 34, was banned from owning animals for five years after her dog, Missy, an American bulldog, was found in a severe condition and had to be euthanized to end her suffering. Wilkinson was found guilty of neglecting Missy, failing to provide a suitable environment, diet, or water, and allowing her to suffer from a flea infestation, joint stiffness, and other health issues.

The RSPCA had been alerted to Missy’s condition and found her living in an unkempt flat without food or water. She was severely obese, infested with fleas, and unable to move without collapsing. A vet confirmed she hadn’t received adequate care for months. Sadly, due to her health problems, Missy was put down.

Wilkinson received a 12-month community order, including alcohol treatment and rehabilitation days, and was ordered to pay £600 in costs. The court noted her mental health and addiction issues but emphasized her neglect was not intentional cruelty.
