Many have tried to cover Leonard Cohen’s iconic “Hallelujah,” but none compare to Mennel Ibtissem’s unforgettable performance on *The Voice France*.Before she even finished her introduction, the 22-year-old singer had already earned the judges’ admiration with her powerful gospel and R&B interpretation of the song.

Mennel, a Muslim artist of French and Syrian descent, made her rendition stand out by singing in both Arabic and English, blending diverse musical styles.

Her version also incorporated lines from “Ya Ilahi (Oh My Lord)” by Kuwaiti singer Muhammad Al Husayn, giving the classic song a fresh twist.

The performance began with a solo piano and evolved into a rich acoustic arrangement featuring an eight-string folk instrument, which beautifully complemented her voice.

Mennel’s rendition captivated the French media, with fans praising her stunning voice, striking features, and the significance of her blue turban as a symbol of representation for French Muslim women in the spotlight.

Mennel’s memorable performance of “Hallelujah” and later “Say Something” by A Great Big World also appeared on *America’s Got Talent*.
