Rescuers Forced To Euthanize Dog Left in Cage With Shattered Bones
At 5 a.m. one May morning, a construction crew in Shelton, Connecticut, came across a chilling discovery. A small dog, caged and soaked to the skin, was left alone at a job site on Bridgeport Avenue.
Workers, moved by the sight, wrapped him in their jackets and called Shelton Animal Control for help, the Daily Voice reports.
The dog was cold and unable to move his back legs. He had been left out in the rain, during the night, in what officials believe was an intentional act of abandonment. As rescuers rushed the injured animal to VCA Shoreline Veterinary Emergency Center, his condition quickly became clear.
Veterinarians Confirm Devastating Injuries
Once at the clinic, medical staff conducted an exam and X-rays. They discovered the dog had sustained multiple fractures to his pelvis and additional injuries severe enough to leave him paralyzed and in constant agony. The team administered pain medication, but the prognosis was bleak.
Shelton Animal Control shared the outcome in a Facebook post, stating: “After a very tough decision, we decided, along with the doctor, that it was best to humanely euthanize him.”
The choice was made to spare the dog a life of immobility and suffering. The injuries were not recent, suggesting the animal may have been abused before being discarded at the site.
Who Left Him There?
Authorities believe the dog was likely dumped during the night, left without any shelter or means of escape, WFSB reports.
The incident has sparked public outrage and a plea for justice. Officials are now asking anyone who may have information to come forward
