Thanks to Her Owner’s Dedication, a Two-Legged Dog Thrives and Inspires Many

Putol, a six-year-old dog born with only her two front legs, is an extraordinary example of resilience and determination.

Living in the Casiguran neighborhood of Quezon City, The Philippines, Putol has learned to adapt to her unique circumstances with the loving care and dedication of her owner, Danilo Codilego Jr.

Despite her disability, Putol now walks, runs, and even patrols her home with remarkable agility, earning admiration from her local community and beyond.

Putol’s story began six years ago when Danilo, a local truck driver, met her as a tiny puppy. She was one of four puppies brought to a bakery where Danilo worked, but unlike her siblings, Putol didn’t find a buyer.

People doubted her survival because of her condition, and no one wanted to take her in. Moved by her vulnerability and determined to give her a chance, Danilo adopted her, naming her “Putol,” which means “chopped” in Tagalog—a name both endearing and a reflection of her challenges.

Danilo’s care and Putol’s determination helped her achieve the unthinkable. For the first two years of her life, Putol struggled to move, but she eventually learned to balance on her front legs.

Over time, she developed incredible strength and coordination, enabling her to walk and even run confidently. Today, Putol is a spirited and active dog who loves exploring the streets and gutters of her neighborhood, often accompanied by other dogs.

Her tenacity and spirit have made Putol a beloved figure in her community. Known for her protective instincts, she acts as a loyal guard dog, alerting Danilo to any approaching strangers.

Despite her physical limitations, she is fiercely independent and content, eating the same food as her owner and enjoying the care of neighbors when Danilo travels for work.

Putol’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of love and patience. Danilo’s unwavering support allowed her to thrive, and her story serves as an inspiration, showing that disabilities are not barriers to a happy and fulfilling life.

Her presence is a daily reminder of resilience, adaptability, and the profound impact of compassion on the lives of animals.
